    Lactoferrin is glycoprotein that is synthesized (produced) within the bodies of humans and most mammals. The word ‘lactoferrin’ (‘lacto’ – means milk; ‘ferrin’ – means iron) denotes an iron-binding compound present in milk. However, Lactoferrin is known to bind several other metals including copper, zinc, manganese, and vanadium. Lactoferrin  is produced within the body on a continuous basis. The average production and usage (the 'turnover') in a human adult is approximately 60 mg per day. 


    Lactoferrin is found in breast milk and various bodily fluids. Lactoferrin is also present in the white blood cells (neutrophils) and is localized in several tissues.

    As a metal binding protein, Lactoferrin promotes the bio-availability and absorption of iron and other trace metals. Lactoferrin helps modulate the body's natural immune responses. Approximately 80% of the immune system is in the digestive tract, and Lactoferrin has also been demonstrated to play in important role in supporting digestive health.     What is Lactoferrin? 

    Lactoferrin (LF) is a metal-binding glycoprotein that is normally synthesized inside all mammals, including humans. It is a single-gene product (“bio-replenishment”) that regulates several important physiological pathways, making it essential for life. 


    What are Bio-Replenishments?

    Bio-replenishment molecules are active regulatory molecules that are naturally synthesized INSIDE the body. In contrast, most vitamins, minerals, plant extracts, etc. are produced OUTSIDE the body.

    What are the side effects from taking Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    None (to our knowledge). However, if any discomfort is noticed by consuming Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® immediately stop taking the product and consult your primary health care provider.


    Can individuals with lactose-intolerance take Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    Yes. The milk ‘protein’ lactoferrin is different from the milk ‘sugar’ lactose.  


    Can individuals with milk protein allergy take Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    Yes. Milk proteins that are reportedly associated with allergic reactions are: casein, casein derivatives (sodium and/or calcium-based), lactalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin and bovine serum albumin. LF does not belong to this group of milk allergens. To our knowledge - any LF-associated or LF-mediated milk protein allergic reactions in human subjects has not been reported. However, if the person has any medical condition (including any milk protein allergy), it is advisable to consult with that person’s health care provider before use of this or any supplement.  


    Can individuals with gluten and/or soy intolerance take Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    Yes. There is NO gluten or soy in Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®.


    Can pregnant women take Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    Yes. Pregnant women can often benefit from iron absorption. Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® contains an iron-binding protein and thus can help iron absorption from foods and multivitamins . In fact, an increased daily dosage of Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® (120 mg, i.e. 2 capsules) could provide further health benefits. However, if the person has any medical condition (including pregnancy), it is advisable to consult with that person’s health care provider before use of this or any supplement.


    Can children take Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    Yes. It is important that the daily diets of children above the age of 4, are supplemented with Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®. As an iron-binding protein, lactoferrin helps in the intestinal absorption of iron – a vital nourishment factor for the growth and development of children. However, it is advisable to consult with the child’s health care provider before use of this or any supplement.


    Can infants and children under the age 4 can take Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    Not Recommended. Though, lactoferrin is considered as an essential nutraceutical for infants and children under the age 4, and is added to several infant formulae worldwide (since 1986); this food application is regulated by federal agencies in respective countries.

    What is the suggested dosage for Lactoferrin Gold 1.8®? 

    A single capsule of 60 mg/day is the suggested dosage as part of regular replenishment for a normal healthy individual. However, depending upon the life-style, age and health-status, increasing the dosage to 2 or 3 capsules per day could benefit certain individuals.  


    Should Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® be taken with food or on an empty stomach; daytime or bedtime? 

    Either way and conveniently at any time. 


    Can Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® be taken with other dietary supplements? 

    Yes. In fact, Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® constitutes as essential core nutrition for total body health including the maintenance of a healthy gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® would help intestinal absorption and further enhance the benefits of other dietary supplements.


    Should Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® not be taken with certain types of medications? 

    Lactoferrin is present in all our bodily fluids and secretions readily for any drug exposure and interactions, irrespective of Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® supplementation. However, if the person has any medical condition (under any medication), it is advisable to consult with that person’s health care provider before use of this or any supplement.    


    Can Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® be taken together with alcoholic beverages? 

    No. However, Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® dosage could be spaced at least 12 hours before or after consumption of an alcoholic beverage.   


    Can Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® be taken together with hot beverages or foods? 

    No. However, Lactoferrin Gold 1.8® is stable at pasteurization temperatures and it is OK to consume this protein supplement with warm foods.
