What is Lactoferrin?

Lactoferrin is a 75 to 80-kDa metal-binding glycoprotein that is synthesized (produced) inside all mammals, including humans. It is a single-gene product that is essential for life. Lactoferrin concentrations are highest in milk/colostrum, but this molecule is also present in various other exocrine secretions (such as tears, saliva, sweat, cerebro-spinal, bronchial, gastric, seminal and vaginal fluids).   

What is the role of Lactoferrin?
